It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Robert G. “Bob” Hanson, co-founder of Omega Senior Living, who passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, at the age of 81.
Bob's life was defined by faith, family, integrity, and a commitment to serving others. While many knew him as a successful entrepreneur and business leader, those who had the privilege of working alongside him knew him as a humble, genuine, and deeply caring person whose influence extended far beyond the businesses he helped build.
A lifelong resident of Wichita, Kansas, Bob first made his mark as an accomplished athlete. He attended Wichita East High School, where he won multiple state championships in track and field, and later competed at the University of Kansas. During his collegiate career, he tied a world-record mark in the 60-yard low hurdles, won consecutive Big 8 Conference titles, and helped lead the Jayhawks to the 1966 NCAA National Championship. His athletic achievements earned him induction into the Wichita East High School Hall of Fame in 2008 and recognition among Wichita's Top 100 Athletes.

Following his academic pursuits at the University of Kansas and Wichita State University, Bob embarked on a business career that would span more than five decades. In 1976, he co-founded Omega Management with his longtime business partner, Nestor Weigand Jr., helping establish a company built on trust, integrity, and strong relationships.
In 2016, Bob partnered with his son, Craig Hanson, to co-found Omega Senior Living. Together, they shared a vision of creating communities where seniors could thrive while receiving compassionate care and support. That vision continues to guide our organization today.
Those who knew Bob will remember that he rarely sought recognition for his accomplishments. Instead, he focused on building meaningful relationships, honoring his commitments, and helping others succeed. His leadership style was characterized by humility, quiet confidence, and an unwavering belief that people should always be treated with dignity and respect.
Even in the later years of his life, Bob remained actively involved in business and continued coming to the office nearly every day. He enjoyed connecting with associates, sharing stories, offering guidance, and encouraging others. His presence was a source of stability and inspiration for many.
Outside of work, Bob found joy in spending time with family and friends, bass fishing, hunting, and enjoying the outdoors. Above all else, he was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ whose faith shaped the way he lived and led.
Today, Bob's legacy lives on through the organizations he helped build, the people he mentored, and the countless lives he touched along the way. The values he embodied—integrity, humility, faith, hard work, and service to others—remain at the heart of Omega Senior Living.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Hanson family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to My Neighbor's Keeper National Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that Bob faithfully supported.
Serving Others. Enriching Lives.
