Welcome to The Green Sock Project™

At Omega Senior Living, we know that caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia is a journey full of unique challenges and heartfelt moments. That’s why we’re proud to introduce The Green Sock Project™—a pioneering initiative dedicated to creating dementia-friendly environments and supporting those who care for our seniors.

The Green Sock Project™ was developed by Omega Senior Living in collaboration with the National Institute for Dementia Education (NIDE). As a respected third-party verification service, NIDE partners with elder service organizations—ranging from senior care communities and memory care units to hospitals and universities—to create unique certificate programs. These programs are dedicated to improving dementia care, ensuring that every caregiver and healthcare provider is equipped to make a difference.

Creating Dementia-Friendly Environments

The Green Sock Project™ is designed to improve the identification of individuals with dementia, ensuring that caregivers, first responders, and community partners can provide the compassionate, informed care our loved ones deserve.

Our innovative approach is built on a simple yet powerful model:

  • Understanding: Recognizing the unique challenges faced by those with dementia.

  • Connecting: Building bridges between caregivers, healthcare providers, and community organizations.

  • Engaging: Actively providing training and resources to empower everyone involved in dementia care.

How It Works

Green socks are more than just a symbol—they are a practical tool. We distribute them to collaborative partners, including hospitals, ERs, and other first responders. This simple gesture helps to quickly and effectively identify individuals who might be suffering from dementia, ensuring they receive the care and understanding they need.

In addition to the physical identifier, The Green Sock Project™ offers specialized dementia training and resources to our partners. By equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary for compassionate care, we are paving the way toward truly dementia-friendly environments.
